Ring Size Guide (Australia): How to Measure
Getting the size close matters — but it doesn't have to be stressful. Australia uses letter sizing (A to Z), and most rings can be resized if you're slightly off.
Measure a ring they already wear
The easiest, most reliable method for a surprise: quietly borrow a ring they wear on the correct finger and have it measured by a jeweller, or measure its inside diameter in millimetres and match it to a size chart. Choose a ring that fits the finger you're buying for — fingers vary hand to hand.
Measure the finger directly
If you can measure the finger, wrap a thin strip of paper or string around the base, mark where it overlaps, and measure that length in millimetres — this is the circumference, which maps to a size. Measure at the end of the day when fingers are at their largest, and take the reading a couple of times.
Tips for an accurate fit
- Cold fingers shrink and warm fingers swell — measure at room temperature.
- The band should slide on easily but need a gentle tug over the knuckle.
- Wider bands fit more snugly, so size up a touch for a chunky band.
- When in doubt, err slightly larger — sizing down is usually simpler.
